A
short history
The Lodge was founded in 1871 by one of the
most prominent
French-speaking men of the time, the politician and lawyer Louis
Ruchonnet
(later President of the Swiss State), together with many other
well-known
and prominent local citizens :
Louis Ruchonnet Jr, President
Jules Chaudet, Senior Warden
Eugène Bernard,Junior Warden
Henri Vidoudez, Secretary
Louis Rossier, Tresorier
and :
Eugène Baud, Jules Besançon, Constant
Borgeaud,
Constant Buxcel,
Jules Eytel, Samuel Palaz, Eugène Piccard,
Théophile
Redard, Charles Roulet, Louis Ruchonnet père, Louis
Veillon,
By 1873 « Liberté » had
already grown
to some 50 members. Today there are approximately 90.
In the early days, meetings were held every
week (except
during the Summer season), initially on Saturdays, then on Fridays, now
on Mondays.
The very first meetings were held in the
homes of various
members. Then the Lodge rented facilities in a series of locations
within
the city. Finally, in 1951, the then two Lausanne Lodges jointly built
their own premises in the centre of town.

Structure
of
the Lodge
As in other Lodges, « Liberté » is managed
by a Committee
of Master Masons, chaired by the Master of the Lodge. Each Committee
member
has specific duties and is entirely responsible for the work entrusted
to him.
Every four years, the Lodge elects a Deputy Master
(Maître Député)
who ensures that the General Principles of Grand Lodge are respected.
He
thus serves as intermediary between the Lodge and the Grand Master of
the
Swiss Grand Lodge Alpina. The Lodge is however entirely independent in
its internal decisions.
Meetings are held every other Monday, except during the Summer
months.
